Porcelain Veneers Warrington

Lifelike Veneers

Porcelain veneers are ultra-thin shells created from porcelain which are bonded to the front of your teeth to improve your smile.

Veneers in Warrington are a fantastic way to improve a smile which has become damaged or stained due to various circumstances.

  • Veneers are used to treat chipped and damaged teeth, teeth that have become worn down, stained or discoloured.
  • Teeth are prone to becoming discoloured due to red wine, tea, coffee, tobacco chewing or cigarette smoking.
  • In certain instances teeth whitening is not enough to restore their natural colour so dental veneers are the treatment of choice.
  • Veneers can also be used to help with slightly crooked teeth or smiles with unsightly gaps.

What are the benefits of porcelain veneers?

Often referred to as the gold standard of veneers, porcelain veneers boast superior strength, aesthetic appeal and overall longevity.

Veneers of all types can be used to solve multiple concerns within a single treatment type. However, porcelain veneers offer the greatest ability to provide a natural looking result compared with other types of veneers.

On the whole, porcelain veneers treatment in Warrington can address a variety of cosmetic dentistry concerns. For instance, if you dislike the shape of your natural teeth, have gaps between the teeth or want to achieve noticeably whiter teeth.

Another benefit of using porcelain veneers is that they can be made from either Emax or Zirconia. The specific choice will depend on the location of the teeth you wish to change and also the issues you want to solve.

However, this level of flexibility allows for a highly customised result which can also prioritise aesthetics or functionality, depending on whether the teeth sit at the front or back of the mouth.

In either case, porcelain veneers can be shaped with the utmost level of precision, meaning unlike other types of veneers, porcelain veneers offer a more comfortable and natural fit in the mouth. This avoids issues such as bulky looking veneers, meaning the finished result looks like it belongs to you, especially in terms of respecting your overall facial structure.

As with other types of veneers, you will not experience pain throughout the process of getting porcelain veneers. Where possible, a minimal prep approach is also taken, which again can also enhance your comfort, and also your long term satisfaction with the treatment.

When properly maintained, porcelain veneers can last for 10 to 15 years and in some cases even longer. Therefore, porcelain veneers are considered a long term solution when wanting to transform your smile.

Pre-Operative Consultation
(before we begin)

Before having a dental veneer fitted we would carry out a very thorough oral examination at our Warrington clinic to ensure that you are a suitable candidate.

We will evaluate your gums to see that they are disease free and if necessary refer you to our therapist to see that you gums are nice and healthy before we go ahead with any treatment. We will also take photographs, x-rays and impressions of your teeth in order to create models of your existing smile.

The models are then sent to a laboratory where the teeth on the models are shaped as your teeth would be in your mouth and wax is used to mimic the final result. Throughout this process your opinion and preferences will be taken into account to determine your final vision of your new smile. The models are then sent back to us for your final approval before we even begin.

When you are 100% happy you will sign your consent form and the clinical stage can begin.

Clinical Stage

In most cases we will have to shave off (prepare) some of your teeth to accommodate the veneers, this procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic which minimises any discomfort in the area through numbing the target area.

A final impression of your prepared teeth is then taken (a master impression) and sent off to a specialised laboratory. In the meantime temporary veneers (acrylic) will be fitted to the prepared teeth which will have the dimensions of your final smile. This is our second checkpoint where we will double check again that you are happy with the length, colour, shape width etc.

Any final adjustments will be made on your temporaries and an impression is taken again another checkpoint and sent to the laboratory.

Fitting Stage

Once the veneers are ready for fitting any final checks are made to ensure that no further are necessary. During the fitting procedure at High Street Smiles in Warrington, your teeth will be thoroughly cleaned and the fronts of the teeth will be covered in a special gel which will increase the effectiveness of the bonding.

A highly specialised dental cement will be used to fix the veneers in place and an ultraviolet light will cause the veneer to chemically and mechanically bond to the tooth. The excess cement is trimmed off and the veneer is polished. A special high gloss polishing paste is then used to create a high gloss finish. Porcelain veneers usually last around ten years provided that you maintain a decent level of oral hygiene.

Dental veneers are highly resistant to discolouration and staining even if you do consume excessive amounts of coffee, tea, smoke or red wine.

When should porcelain veneers be used?

Porcelain veneers are suitable for anyone in search of a dramatic change to their smile without having to undergo invasive dental work.

Veneers can address a number of cosmetic dental concerns simultaneously. Commonly, this can include whitening the shade of the teeth, closing gaps between teeth or improving the shape of any natural teeth.

While veneers can also be made from composite, porcelain veneers can look more natural and with the right care can last for much longer. Therefore, porcelain veneers are best suited for those in search of a long term solution to their cosmetic dentistry concerns.

How long do they last?

The expected lifespan of porcelain veneers is between 10 and 15 years. Although, it is not unheard of for porcelain veneers to last for up to 20 years.

Beyond the skill of your dentist, what impacts the longevity of porcelain veneers is the patient’s commitment to caring for their veneers. This not only includes following a diligent oral hygiene routine, but also taking steps to prevent damage to the veneers.

How to make porcelain veneers last longer

Porcelain veneers are an investment. As such, they require care and attention to preserve their integrity.

To maximise the longevity of porcelain veneers, a diligent oral hygiene routine should be followed. You will need to brush your teeth twice a day with a non-abrasive toothbrush and also floss each day. Follow up with an alcohol-free mouthwash.

Regular visits to your hygienist are also essential. When you have veneers, it is recommended to schedule a professional clean every 3-6 months. This is so that your veneers not only continue to look great, but that we can ensure the teeth underneath the veneers remain healthy.

You should also take care not to stress the veneers by taking care when biting into foods. Avoid biting into hard foods to prevent chipping your veneers.

If you grind your teeth at night, you will need to wear a mouthguard to protect your teeth while you sleep.

What are Emax veneers?

Composed of lithium disilicate, Emax is a glass-like ceramic that possesses incredible translucent properties when used to make veneers.

Emax is one of the main material options alongside Zirconia that can be used to create porcelain veneers.

The highly aesthetic appeal of Emax makes it an ideal choice for veneers, particularly for the visible teeth at the front of the mouth.

Emax veneers are suitable for addressing several cosmetic dental concerns, including improving the shape of the teeth, fixing chips or gaps and also enhancing any discolouration.

Something Emax veneers are especially known for is being super strong yet super thin. As a result, they lay flush against the surface of the tooth without creating any undesirable bulk.

The finished result can not only look more natural, but can also offer a more comfortable feel to the teeth due to Emax being a strong yet lightweight material.

Do porcelain veneers look natural?

Absolutely. Porcelain veneers have light reflecting properties and can also be finely customised to fit your teeth and your overall facial structure. Each of these aspects can focus on providing a natural result if this is something you desire.

The shade of your porcelain veneers can be made to blend with the rest of your natural teeth. Alternatively, we can opt for a much lighter shade to resemble more of a Hollywood smile if you would prefer.

How much do porcelain veneers cost?

The cost of Emax or Zirconia porcelain veneers at our Warrington dental practice starts at £845 per tooth. See our fees page for more options.

As porcelain veneers offer the very best technology in terms of longevity and aesthetic appeal, this is reflected in the cost.

Veneers are typically only applied to the front eight teeth as these are the most visible teeth when talking or smiling.

Alternatively, you can also opt to only have veneers placed on individual teeth depending on your preferences.

Are there alternatives to porcelain veneers?

Your dentist can suggest various alternatives to porcelain veneers depending on the specific issues you are looking to address.

If veneers are the best solution but are too costly, then your veneers can also be made of composite as a cheaper alternative. Similarly, we can also perform composite bonding of the tooth to repair or reshape the teeth.

Beyond veneers, we can also perform a wide range of other treatments such as dental implants, teeth straightening and teeth whitening.

When you visit us for a consultation, we can run you through all of the options depending on what you are looking to achieve. For instance, whether you are simply looking to whiten your teeth or if you would also like to change the shape or alignment of the teeth.
