VENEERS
Porcelain veneers are ultra-thin shells created from porcelain which are bonded to the front of your teeth to improve your smile.
Veneers are a fantastic way to improve a smile which has become damaged or stained due to various circumstances.
- Veneers are used to treat chipped and damaged teeth, teeth that have become worn down, stained or discoloured.
- Teeth are prone to becoming discoloured due to red wine, tea, coffee, tobacco chewing or cigarette smoking.
- In certain instances teeth whitening is not enough to restore their natural colour so dental veneers are the treatment of choice.
- Veneers can also be used to help with slightly crooked teeth or smiles with unsightly gaps.

Pre-Operative Consultation
(before we begin)
Before having a dental veneer fitted we would carry out a very thorough oral examination to ensure that you are a suitable candidate. We will evaluate your gums to see that they are disease free and if necessary refer you to our therapist to see that you gums are nice and healthy before we go ahead with any treatment. We will also take photographs, x-rays and impressions of your teeth in order to create models of your existing smile. The models are then sent to a laboratory where the teeth on the models are shaped as your teeth would be in your mouth and wax is used to mimic the final result. Throughout this process your opinion and preferences will be taken into account to determine your final vision of your new smile. The models are then sent back to us for your final approval before we even begin. When you are 100% happy you will sign your consent form and the clinical stage can begin.
Clinical Stage
In most cases we will have to shave off (prepare) some of your teeth to accommodate the veneers, this procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic which minimises any discomfort in the area through numbing the target area.
A final impression of your prepared teeth is then taken (a master impression) and sent off to a specialised laboratory. In the meantime temporary veneers (acrylic) will be fitted to the prepared teeth which will have the dimensions of your final smile. This is our second checkpoint where we will double check again that you are happy with the length, colour, shape width etc. Any final adjustments will be made on your temporaries and an impression is taken again another checkpoint and sent to the laboratory.

Fitting Stage
Once the veneers are ready for fitting any final checks are made to ensure that no further are necessary. During the fitting procedure your teeth will be thoroughly cleaned and the fronts of the teeth will be covered in a special gel which will increase the effectiveness of the bonding. A highly specialised dental cement will be used to fix the veneers in place and an ultraviolet light will cause the veneer to chemically and mechanically bond to the tooth. The excess cement is trimmed off and the veneer is polished. A special high gloss polishing paste is then used to create a high gloss finish. Porcelain veneers usually last around ten years provided that you maintain a decent level of oral hygiene. Dental veneers are highly resistant to discolouration and staining even if you do consume excessive amounts of coffee, tea, smoke or red wine.
